Last week U.S. Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) was chosen to serve on two subcommittees within the House Armed Services Committee, on which he has served for over 15 years.  Jones will be a member of the Subcommittee on Military Personnel and the Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces.  Congressman Jones feels these are the subcommittees on which he could do the most for the people in his district, which includes Camp Lejeune, MCAS Cherry Point and Seymour Johnson AFB.

“I am very proud of the military district which I represent,” said Jones.  “I want to do all I can to help those who serve this country and make sure they are given every benefit they deserve.”

The Subcommittee on Personnel oversees military personnel policy, reserve component integration and employment issues, military health care, military education, and POW/MIA issues.  In addition, the subcommittee will be responsible for Morale, Welfare and Recreation issues and programs.

The Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces will be responsible for Navy and Marine Corps aviation programs and oversee all Army and Air Force acquisition programs, as well as the National Guard, Army and Air Force reserve modernization, and ammunition programs.  This subcommittee will be responsible for the Marine aircraft which is so vital to the congressman’s district, such as the F-35 squadrons and the V-22 aircraft.
