Some of the leading names in U.S. agriculture will be sharing their views in a new farm policy forum to be featured at www.agri-pulse.com/. Former Secretaries of Agriculture Dan Glickman and Clayton Yeutter, former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle and former House Agriculture Committee Chairman Larry Combest are among a dozen experts from across the political spectrum who will address the challenges and opportunities presented by a new era in farm policy.

"Skyrocketing federal debt, rising energy and food prices, strong export growth and near record U.S. farm income are among factors that will underlie the debate ahead as policy makers begin development of the 2012 Farm Bill," says Agri-Pulse Editor Sara Wyant. "At the same time, global demands for food, feed, fiber and fuel are ratcheting up the pressure on growers around the globe to dramatically increase productivity in a sustainable fashion and feed an estimated nine billion people by 2050.

“The timing is right to engage in a more thoughtful discussion about the hard decisions ahead for policy makers and the agricultural community,” Wyant adds. “We’ve created a new forum for exchanging ideas on our Web site that we hope will enlighten newcomers to the debate and encourage more informed dialogue.”

Each week on http://www.agri-pulse.com/, new commentaries by some of the nation's leading farm policy voices will be featured. Readers will be able to share their feedback at the bottom of each of the featured opinions.

Others who have signed on to participate include Marshall Matz, a partner at the OFW Law firm in Washington, D.C., Bruce Knight, former Chief of the Natural Resources Conservation Service, Jon Scholl, President of the American Farmland Trust and Matthew Chase, Executive Director of the National Association of Development Organizations. Former Secretary of Agriculture John Block is already contributing an audio version of his commentary. Over the next several weeks, subscribers to the site will find additional opinion leaders showcased in this section, where they will reveal their views on a wide variety of global and domestic agricultural and rural issues.

Agri-Pulse Communications is the leader in providing agricultural and rural policy information via the web site and subscription-only e-newsletter, Agri-Pulse. The featured commentary from experts will complement the concise coverage of daily farm and rural policy developments that has made Agri-Pulse the principal source of news for the nation's agricultural sector.

“We hope this will be a robust platform for debate about how farm and rural policies should be modified to meet the demands of a growing, hungry world,” adds Wyant.
