Two horse shows held at the Western N.C. Agricultural Center were honored recently by the United States Equestrian Foundation as “Favorite USEF Breeds Competition” winners. The 2010 Blue Ridge Classic won favorite Saddlebred Horse Show, and the 2010 Piedmont Classic won favorite Paso Fino Show. The winners were selected by the USEF membership.

“It is an honor to have shows selected by the national governing body of equestrian sport in the United States,” said Matt Buchanan, WNC Agricultural Center manager. “This recognition speaks volumes about the hard work of the horse show leadership, committees and staff.”

This marks the second year the USEF membership selected breed competition winners. The program started as a way for USEF members to recognize well-run and well-organized breed shows.

Members were allowed to provide feedback with their votes. The Blue Ridge Classic Saddlebred Show was commended for its location and for making exhibitors feel welcome. The Paso Fino Piedmont Classic Show was praised for its helpful show staff and drawing competitors from a number of states, adding a “mini-nationals” feel to the show.

The Western N.C. Agricultural Center is the home of the N.C. Mountain State Fair, numerous horse and livestock events, large-scale conferences and trade shows. The facility is operated by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
