Frozen stocks of poultry, meat rising: USDA report

USDA reported total frozen poultry supplies on Jan. 31 were up 4 percent from the previous month and up 11 percent from a year ago.


In its monthly Cold Storage report, USDA reported total stocks of chicken were down 3 percent from the previous month but up 23 percent from last year. Total pounds of turkey in freezers were up 33 percent from last month but down 16 percent from Jan. 31, 2010.


Total red meat supplies in freezers on Jan. 31 were up 8 percent from both the previous month and from a year ago.


Frozen pork supplies were up 14 percent from the previous month and up 10 percent from last year. Stocks of pork bellies were up 1 percent from last month but down 4 percent from last year.
