Avery/Mitchell Pesticide Licensing School

On Thursday and Friday, March 17 & 18, 2011 the Avery and Mitchell County Centers of North Carolina Cooperative Extension will be offering a private and commercial applicator pesticide licensing school. This school is for farmers needing to purchase restricted use pesticide to apply on their own or rented land. The school will also be for those individuals desiring to get a license to apply pesticides commercially to landscapes, agriculture plants and animals, right-of-ways and golf courses. Other licensing areas include regulatory, demonstration and research, forestry, aquatic and dealer. The two (2) day school will run from 9:00 a.m. til. 5:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. til 12:00 noon on Friday. At 1:00 p.m. on Friday a NCDA&CS Pesticide Inspector will be on hand to administer the test. The pesticide class and test will be held at the Avery Campus of Mayland Community College in Newland. Private Applicator V Training (Test)

Pesticide Private Applicator V Training (test) will be administered at the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Ashe County Center. Certification is required for farmers (private applicators) wishing to apply restricted use pesticides to an agricultural commodity. Private applicators are certified for three (3) years and the certification fee is ten dollars($10.00) every three years. Please refer to www.ncagr.gov for fees which are now charged effective 7/14/2010.

Pesticide Recertification Classes

PESTICIDE RECERTIFICATION CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES

There will be two Pesticide Meetings held Thursday, March 17, from 5-9 p.m. at the O. P. Owens Agriculture Center, Highway 72 West, Lumberton. These meetings will provide 2 hours credit towards category V and 2 hours credit towards category X. Private Applicators need a total of 2 credit hours in both catagories to renew their card. These classes will provide those hours for credit. Commercial license holders will also be able to receive 2 hours credit (see below). 5 – 7 p.m. (2 Hours) – Private Applicator Category V training for farmers to renew their private applicator certification. This session will include Pesticide Safety and Record Keeping Requirements, Reducing Pesticide Exposure on the Farm and in the Home, and Fundamentals for Pesticide Mix/Load Sites. 7 – 9 p.m. (2 Hours) – Category X training for farmers needing credit for private applicators certification and for dealers and commercial applicators needing credit for N, O, or D classification. It is also provided from others needing credits for G, H, I, K, or L who want to learn more about identification and management of fire ants in lawns, landscapes, roadsides, and other non-cropland areas. Topics to be discussed include Fire Ant Identification and Management. Call the Extension Center at 671-3276 to register for these meetings. Commercial Pesticide Applicators Continuing Certification Class

The Columbus County Cooperative Extension Office will be holding a Commercial Pesticide Applicator Recertification on Course Friday, March 18 , at the Columbus County Center's meeting room. This course will provide 2.5 hours of credit towards license holders in the following categories: A. Aquatic B. Public Health D. Dealer G. Forest H. Right-of-Way K. Ag Pest- Animal I. Regulatory L. Ornamental and Turf N. Demonstration and Research O. Ag Pest- Plant The course will also offer credit hours for private applicator (farmer) license holders under the X credit category. Please be sure to bring your license with you in order to have it scanned into our database, especially if you have multiple licenses. Please all the Extension Office to let us know you are attending. We need a headcount to ensure adequate seating.
