Take Action: Tell Congress to Pass 1099 Repeal
Story Date: 3/31/2011

Source: American Society of Association Executives, March 30

Recently, there has been a lot of press on votes to repeal the new 1099 provision.  Both the Senate and the House have passed their own versions of repeal, and an overwhelming majority of members have voted for repeal at some point.

However, until the president signs a bill passed by both chambers of Congress, the 1099 reporting requirement has not been repealed.

The Senate is considering whether to take up the repeal bill passed by the House or pass their own version of repeal again.  Our message to Congress on the 1099 is simple: get it done.  Too often we've seen Congress bicker over tax issues until it is too late to reform or pass them - the estate tax issue was not decided until after the deadline had passed.  If we do not encourage both chambers of Congress to work together today, the issue could not get repealed until it is too late.

Send a message to your member of Congress that it is not enough to just vote for repeal - they need to be a champion for repeal.  Take action today.
