Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE: TSN) has pledged to contribute to the Japan Earthquake/Pacific Tsunami Fund of the American Red Cross, company officials reported today.

Tyson will match employee donations, dollar-for-dollar, up to $100,000 for the American Red Cross, which is helping support the medical and relief activities of the Japanese Red Cross in the aftermath of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

“Like many others, we’re saddened by the tragedy in Japan and want to do something to help,” said Donnie Smith, president and CEO of Tyson Foods.  “Our company and our team members have a tradition of stepping forward in situations like this, and in this case have decided to direct our donations to Japan through one of our nation’s leading disaster relief organizations.”

Tyson will be accepting employee contributions through the end of April.  The contributed funds will then be matched by the company and given to the American Red Cross.
