Governor Beverly Perdue today appointed Guilford County Chief District Court Judge Joseph E. Turner to fill the superior court vacancy resulting from President Obama’s appointment of Catherine Eagles to a federal judgeship.

“Judge Turner is a consummate professional, a person of the highest integrity, highly disciplined, and a gifted individual,” said Perdue.  “His years of experience on the district court bench have prepared him well to be a superior court judge.  His service in this new role will not only benefit the court, but will also benefit the citizens of the district.”

Judge Turner has served on the district court bench since 1988. He was appointed Chief District Court Judge in 2003. Prior to that, he worked in private practice in Greensboro where he also served as an assistant public defender. A Guilford County native, he is active in the community, serving on numerous boards and civic groups in Guilford County.

Turner received his undergraduate degree from Davidson College and his law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law.
