REP. ELLMERS’ STATEMENT ON SENATE PASSAGE OF 1099 REPEAL

Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC), who co-sponsored H.R. 4, the House bill to repeal the 1099 mandate, today released the following statement in response to Senate passage of the bill:
“I am pleased to see one of the job-killing provisions of ObamaCare gone with today’s passage of the 1099 repeal bill in the Senate,” Ellmers said. “The 1099 reporting mandate was a barrier to job creation, impacting small business owners’ ability to grow their businesses and hire new employees.”

On Wednesday, February 9th, as a member of the House Small Business Committee, Congresswoman Ellmers heard testimony on the 1099 mandate in a full committee hearing.

Jerol Kivett, the owner of a business in North Carolina’s Second District, testified that “cumbersome and confusing” new laws and regulations like the 1099 mandate were making recovery in this tough business climate even more difficult as they added significantly to the costs of doing business for his church pew manufacturing company.  The Committee heard similar stories from small business owners across the country.

“The repeal of the 1099 mandate is a direct response to the American people who have let us know the top priority of this Congress has to be passing legislation that will promote job creation – especially in the private sector,” Ellmers said.  “Senate passage of this bill brings us closer to our goal of promoting a better environment for creating jobs and growing our economy.”

JONES APPLAUDS CONGRESSIONAL REPEAL  OF ANTI-SMALL BUSINESS OBAMACARE PROVISION

Today U.S. Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) cheered Senate passage of H.R. 4, the Small Business Paperwork Mandate Elimination Act of 2011, which will repeal the Obamacare 1099 reporting requirements on small businesses and rental property.  The 1099 reporting requirements would require small businesses to report any expense over $600 to the IRS.  H.R. 4 – which Congressman Jones strongly supported, cosponsored and voted for when it passed the House by a vote of 314 – 112 on March 3, 2011 – now goes to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

“This is the first step in a larger effort to repeal and defund Obamacare in its entirety,” said Jones.  “This is a big win for small businesses and taxpayers across the nation.”

H.R. 4 will save taxpayers $20 billion over the next 10 years while reducing the deficit by $166 million during that same time.  Passage will also help support job creation as employers will not have to comply with the bill’s unnecessary, burdensome 1099 reporting requirements.  The legislation is endorsed by more than 170 small business organizations.
