U.S. Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC), chairwoman of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Healthcare and Technology, today held a hearing to examine ways to better improve and strengthen the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs.

“We should be examining and utilizing every possible avenue that will create jobs and spark economic growth,” said Ellmers. “The SBIR program does both—and without any additional federal funding. The program will expand opportunities for small businesses in North Carolina’s second district and help get our economy back on the right track and Americans back on the job.”

“SBIR enables small businesses to unleash their ingenuity and take risks to create products beneficial for the government, as well as, commercial use. In fact, SBIR is recognized as one of the country’s most successful programs in promoting innovation,” said Ellmers.

“As chairwoman of the Healthcare and Technology subcommittee, I will remain committed to strengthening the SBIR program to create jobs and help small businesses grow.”
