Tax rate may fall as home values rise

Mecklenburg County could lower its tax rate by six cents in 2011-12 and collect the same amount in taxes as before, plus a bit more to reflect a growing tax base, an Observer analysis shows.

County administrators are expected to unveil the so-called revenue-neutral tax rate at a Tuesday workshop with county commissioners. Click here for more.
