The Russian government will allocate additional funds to support its pork and poultry producers as it plans to import significantly less poultry this year than five years ago, Bloomberg reported.

Russia will spend another nine billion rubles ($320 million) to support pork and poultry producers, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said in an address to legislators.

Russia will import about 300,000 metric tons of poultry in 2011, down from 1.3 million tons five years ago, as it continues to expand its domestic meat industry, Putin said. He said Russian producers are now meeting three-quarters of domestic meat demand.

Russia will spend a total of 13 billion rubles ($462 million) this year on agricultural support, Putin said.
