The Chatham County Center of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service will be conducting an educational training class for livestock producers. The commercial credits will include Ag. Pest – Plant (O), Demonstration and Research (N) and Dealer (D) categories. The class is titled, “Weed Control Strategies for Piedmont Pastures”. In this class we will look at some of the more common weeds that we find growing in our pastures here in Chatham County and the piedmont region of North Carolina in the spring, summer and fall and discuss control options for these weeds. There will be a discussion of the different herbicides that are labeled for use in pasture and when we may want to use them and when definitely not to use them. In this class we will also look at the relationship between controlling weeds in the summer and fall and the reduction of weed populations in the spring. This program will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2011 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Carolina Stockyards, Inc. in Siler City, NC. This is a free educational opportunity. Participants will receive a CD containing information that is covered in the course.
