Whether your pests are insects, diseases, or weeds, they are easier to manage if you know what to expect and have a plan in place before it’s an emergency. This class will look at some of the many options for dealing with garden pests whether they are in the lawn, the trees, or the vegetables. This series of three classes will include more detail in the sessions on Insects (May 9 or 10) and on Plant Diseases (May 16 or 17). But it will be important to get the basic management principles in this introduction to pest management. Classes will be held in the Auditorium of the Agriculture Building, 45 South Street, Pittsboro, NC. See Map of Main County Office Complex at www.chathamnc.org/Index.aspx?page=796.

 Classes are offered in either morning or evening sessions; plan to attend one or the other. Please watch our “Events” on our website at chatham.ces.ncsu.edu/index.php?page=site, for any changes. There is no charge. Those who pre-register can expect to receive a CD with supplementary information. We have found that use of CDs instead of printed handouts saves more than a lot of paper. We can put more material on one CD than in two large notebooks. On the CD we are also able to include the latest version of Acrobat Reader for using some of the included files and PowerPoint presentations. For some of our participants, the CD provides an alternative to downloading Acrobat software that could take hours using a dial-up connection. The CD also saves us a tremendous amount of staff time in printing and collating. However, if you are not able to use a CD, we can make printed material available on request.
