The Department of Health and Human Services has extended by 60 days the comment period on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s antibiotic resistance action plan, the National Chicken Council said in its weekly Washington Report.
The Animal Agriculture Coalition, which includes NCC, requested the extension to allow sufficient time to review the plan.
The document revises the 2001 interagency action plan and updates a blueprint for specific coordinated federal action to combat antibiotic resistance. The plan addresses a wide range of pathogens (bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites) and settings (human medicine, veterinary medicine, agriculture and animal production). Action items are organized into four areas: surveillance, prevention and control, research, and product development.
