A coalition including meat-and-poultry industry associations said today they applaud U.S. Sens. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) and Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) for introducing a bill to end subsidies for ethanol producers.

The coalition said they have sent the senators a letter expressing their support for the bipartisan “Ethanol Subsidy and Tariff Repeal Act.”

Conventional ethanol is subsidized with refundable tax credits worth 45 cents per gallon when blended into gasoline. The legislation would save taxpayers several billion dollars per year, the coalition said.
