Tyson Foods Inc.’s Brazilian subsidiary is seeking to double its sales in the Serra Gaucha region of Rio Grande do Sul state in Brazil, according to a company release.

One of Tyson do Brasil’s objectives is to increase its distribution of Macedo-brand products and to sell an additional 120 tons of chicken meat by December 2011.

"Our [regional] consumers, who want high quality and a variety of products, prefer cuts of thigh, leg, wing, and breast fillets. We trust in the success of our line of cold, frozen, seasoned, and individual products," said Tyson commercial director Rafael Martins.

Tyson do Brasil sells its Macedo-brand in over 500 locations throughout the state.

"We have the potential to increase our state sales. We will be delivering our products beyond our regional locations to achieve these objectives," Martins affirmed.

In March 2011, the company announced its goal to sell an additional 400 tons of chicken meat in the Serra Gaucha region by the second half of 2012.

Otherwise known as the Gaucho Highlands, the Serra Gaucha region includes such cities as Caxias do Sul, Bento Gonçalves, Farroupilha, among others, and is located about 70 miles north of Porto Alegre, the state capital.
