The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has revised its level of in-plant targeted testing for chemical residues.
Effective June 1, inspectors are required to perform increased, targeted testing for chemical residues at facilities that don’t have support in their hazard analysis to show they have an effective residue control program when slaughtering cull dairy cows and bob veal calves.
Among other responsibilities, inspectors are now required to look for indications of illegal chemical use or exposure at slaughter and collect tissue samples for residue analysis as part of verification of the food safety system.
