Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that Ice River Springs, a water bottling company, will expand their operations in Burke County. The project includes an additional 100,000 square foot warehouse and the hiring of 12 new employees. Ice River Springs, headquartered in Canada, opened their first U.S. facility in Morganton in 2006.

“It’s encouraging to see another North Carolina employer continuing to grow and hire new workers,” said Gov. Perdue. “It’s a testament to our commitment to educating our workforce and the fact that North Carolina continues to be a great a location for additional investments by companies already here.”

Ice River Springs’ corporate pledge to environmentally friendly processing and recycling is a clear indication of their pro-active commitment and concern for the communities in which they operate.

“Ice River Springs has built a “can do” reputation with our customers that has propelled us forward in the bottled water industry,” said Jenny Hudson, Plant Logistics at Ice River Springs Morganton.  “We have experienced growth for the past two years and the addition of our new high-speed bottle line in Morganton will help meet the demands of that growth.  It is our goal to continue to provide opportunities in Morganton and to build our leadership in this industry.”

Ice River Springs received local economic development incentive grants from the City of Morganton and Burke County.  Other project partners include Burke Development, Inc. and the N.C. Department of Commerce.

“We are excited and encouraged by this announcement,” said Burke Development Inc. President, Scott Darnell. “It is wonderful to see our local companies reinvesting in the community, resulting in new jobs for our citizens.”
