First key vote on Senate budget scheduled for today

An updated state government budget by the North Carolina Senate could help the Republican-led Legislature approve a spending plan despite a veto threat by Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue.

The Senate scheduled the first of two required votes Wednesday on a two-year spending plan that was rolled out Tuesday.
