James Wilkes may spend his days in front of a computer, but he spends his nights and weekends in front of a beehive. “They are just fascinating little critters if you ask me: the way they are organized and the biology of them and the way they function,” Wilkes, an Appalachian State University computer science professor, said about his honeybees, which he began keeping in 2000.
