U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan will kick off her “Fighting for our Future” budget listening tour on Friday in Raleigh. With Washington drowning in red ink, Senator Hagan will use her listening tour to hear directly from North Carolinians about commonsense solutions to reduce our deficit and put the national fiscal house in order. By 2020, interest on the national debt could rise to nearly $1 trillion, jeopardizing investments in key priorities, including our seniors, our students and our military and their families.

The Raleigh forum is the first of four listening sessions Hagan is convening across the state with community leaders to hear their ideas for achieving a fiscal balance that reflects North Carolina values and creates jobs. Hagan will take ideas from all the listening sessions back to Washington to ensure North Carolinians have a seat at the table. Hagan’s visit to Raleigh is three days before the President’s Jobs and Competitiveness Council meets in the Triangle to discuss ways to strengthen the economy.

Also Friday, Hagan, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, will address the 2011 American Legion Department Convention in Raleigh at 10:15 a.m. Hagan will discuss her work on behalf of the country’s veterans and military personnel, and the important role the American Legion plays in supporting North Carolina’s veterans, servicemembers and communities.
