Pete Cowan fondly remembers growing up about a mile north of Burgaw on a tobacco farm in the 1950s. He could walk to school and then in the afternoon stop by Dees Drug Store for ice cream and a Coca-Cola.
Today, he is mayor of the town that he grew up in and can still walk over to Dees Drug Store for ice cream and a Coca-Cola.
