U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (NC) today congratulated Thomas Walker after the Senate Judiciary Committee sent his nomination to the full Senate for confirmation. At Hagan’s recommendation, President Obama nominated Walker to be U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Senator Richard Burr (NC) also supports Mr. Walker’s nomination.

“In March of 2009, I convened a statewide panel, led by former North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Burley Mitchell, to find the most qualified, competent and fair-minded candidates for federal appointments,” Hagan said. “Mr. Walker is one of the outstanding legal minds that were chosen through this process to recommend to the President. His extensive experience, including seven years in the U.S. Attorney’s office, makes him incredibly qualified to be the U.S. Attorney for North Carolina’s Eastern District. I look forward to working with Senator Burr to advance Mr. Walker’s nomination in the Senate, and with all of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to see that he is swiftly confirmed.”

Walker has previously served as Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina, Assistant District Attorney in Mecklenburg County, and as a Special Counsel to North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper. He is currently a partner at Alston & Bird Trial Practice Group in Charlotte.
