Pork retail prices reach all-time high; beef, poultry prices slip

As retail pork prices set a new all-time high in May, making for a robust spread earned by retailers, the opposite was true for retail chicken prices. Last month, prices slipped – and so did the spread earned by the average retailer.


That’s likely the result of grocers discounting chicken more often, according to Ken Goldman, an analyst with J.P. Morgan Securities LLC, in his analysis of the USDA’s monthly Meat Spread data report.
