A lawsuit filed by chicken growers against Pilgrim's Pride had its first day in court Thursday, Shreveport, La.-based TV station KTBS reported.

The lawsuit alleges that Pilgrim's Pride closed processing plants in Union Parish, La., and El Dorado, Ark., to cut supply and raise chicken prices; the company argues that the shutdowns were a cost-cutting measure.
