Even though he refers to himself as an “AM guy in an FM world,” U.S. Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC) announced today that he has decided to join the new media world by launching his own congressional Facebook and Twitter pages.  Congressman Coble said that the sites are operating now.

Rep. Coble said that those interested in his new, official social media will find him at “Howard Coble” on Facebook and can access his Twitter feed via @HowardCoble.  “People know that I am not a technology geek,” Rep. Coble stated, “but I understand the importance that new media now play in many peoples’ lives.  As their elected representative, I need to be able to communicate with them, too.”

Congressman Coble said that Rebecca Potts, who works in his main district office in Greensboro, has been named Social Media Manager.  Rep. Coble said that Rebecca will be managing the daily operations of the Facebook and Twitter sites.  Potts said that the new tools will be particularly helpful in providing 6th District residents with information from federal agencies.  “For example,” Rebecca noted, “if the State Department releases a travel advisory urging Americans not to visit a particular country, we can post that information on Facebook and Twitter almost immediately and that important news may reach our constituents sooner.”

Rep. Coble urged residents of the 6th District to 'like’ him on Facebook and 'follow’ him on Twitter for updates from his office.   “I may be an AM guy in an FM world,” Coble noted, “or maybe I am an analog guy in a digital world, but I appreciate the importance of being connected digitally to our constituents.”
