U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (NC) today congratulated Thomas Walker after the Senate unanimously confirmed him to be U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina. At Hagan’s recommendation, President Obama nominated Walker for the position. Senator Richard Burr (NC) also supported his nomination.

“Mr. Walker is incredibly qualified to serve as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District," Hagan said. "His extensive experience includes seven years in the U.S. Attorney’s office. I recommended Mr. Walker to the President because of his excellent credentials, and I am proud the Senate confirmed him unanimously.”

Walker previously served as Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina, Assistant District Attorney in Mecklenburg County, and as a Special Counsel to North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper. He is currently a partner at Alston & Bird Trial Practice Group in Charlotte.

In March of 2009, Hagan convened a statewide panel, led by former North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Burley Mitchell, to screen candidates for U.S. Attorney and U.S. District Court Judge positions.
