U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (NC) joined a bipartisan group of Southeastern Senators to encourage the passage of the Hagan co-sponsored Southeastern Disaster Tax Relief Act. The bill would give much-needed tax relief to North Carolinians working to rebuild after April's devastating storms and tornadoes. For more about the bill click here.

The Senators sent a letter to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus and Ranking Member Orrin Hatch encouraging expeditious consideration of the bill in committee so that it may receive consideration by the full Senate. The full text of the letter can be read here.

“As North Carolina families affected by April’s devastating storms rebuild their homes, businesses and communities, I will continue to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass this important tax relief bill,” said Hagan. “We must do everything we can at a federal level to help these families recover.”

“The storm systems that devastated the Southeast over the past few months were tragic events, claiming hundreds of lives and resulting in billions of dollars of damage,” wrote the Senators. “As affected individuals, families, and small businesses continue to pick up the pieces, it is important that Congress take prudent steps following these extraordinary storms to help these communities recover.”
