FSIS issues notice on allergens

USDA’s Food Safety Inspection Service has instructed its inspectors to make poultry and meat establishments aware of the need for appropriate process controls to ensure known allergens are properly labeled.


“This notice is necessary because of a sustained number of adulterated and misbranded meat and poultry products recalled because of the presence of undeclared ingredients, especially ingredients of public health concern, specifically allergens,” the notice stated.
