The latest research related to turfgrass will be the focus of an N.C. State University field day set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, in Raleigh.

The 2011 N.C. State University Turfgrass Field Day will give participants the chance to see research plots and speak directly with university researchers and North Carolina Cooperative Extension specialists.
Topics include integrated pest management, cultural practices, irrigation technologies and disease, weed and insect control. The event takes place at the Lake Wheeler Turfgrass Field Lab, part of N.C. State’s larger Lake Wheeler Road Field Laboratory.

Among the research to be highlighted is the turfgrass breeding program. Dr. Susana Milla-Lewis will discuss zoysiagrass being adapted to North Carolina’s growing conditions, bermudagrass germplasm collected from South Africa for shade tolerance, and tall fescue being selected for drought tolerance.
The event is open to professionals involved in turfgrass management as well as anyone with an interest in lawn care.
