Five new oyster reefs being installed off Wilmington

The StarNews of Wilmington reported Monday that the 400-member Pender Watch and Conservancy volunteer organization worked with state and other private agencies to build the reefs on an unnamed island offshore.

Pender Watch president Allie Sheffield says the reefs cut down on boat traffic, which slows erosion. More importantly, they serve as a haven for new sea life.
