U.S. Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC) is still earning his conservative political stripes, according to a leading right-of-center organization that monitors congressional votes.  Congressman Coble was recently designated an “ACU Conservative” by the American Conservative Union (ACU).

Rep. Coble was recognized for his outstanding conservative score of 96% in ACU’s 2010 ratings of Congress.  ACU Chairman Al Cardenas praised Coble for his voting record.  “This ratings award is a reflection of Congressman Coble’s consistent support of conservative principles on a wide range of issues of concern to grass roots conservatives in 2010,” Cardenas noted.   “At a time when the fundamental principles of the American system of government are being challenged, Congressman Coble stands with those who are trying to preserve those principles.” (In the attached photo, Cardenas is presenting Coble with his award.)

The ACU rates members of Congress by analyzing how they voted in key House resolutions throughout the 111th Congress.  The resolutions included: H.R. 5281 – DREAM Act; H.R. 5850 – Spending Reductions; H.R. 3534 – Offshore Drilling Moratorium; and H.R. 4872 – Health Care Reconciliation, and Health Care Bill Repeal Act.

The ACU picks from a wide range of votes to find, not only the most important, but also the ideologically distinct votes to distinguish the true nature of each member of Congress.  Congressman Coble obtained a score of 96% for his work in the 111th Congress.
