Winter wheat production in the U.S. is forecast to be up 3% from last month and up only slightly from 2010, according to the latest Crop Production Report, released July 12 by USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. At first glance that might appear to be "nothing to write home about," as the saying goes, but the report also dramatically shows just how much producers in the Carolina-Virginia region responded to the expectation of higher prices this year by upping their forecasted wheat production.
