In hopes of raising nearly $954 million in development capital, the world’s largest pork exporter and Europe’s largest pork producer has announced that it is entertaining the possibility of going public.

Pork and beef exporter Danish Crown – which is owned by a cooperative of nearly 10,000 Danish pig and cow farmers – is pursuing that funding from a public sale or outside investors, Board Chairman Niels Mikkelsen told the Jyllands-Posten newspaper Tuesday.

“The goal is for Danish Crown to be one of the three biggest food producers in Europe,” Mikkelsen said. “There isn’t a doubt in my mind that Danish Crown will have to grow quite considerably in coming years to secure itself a lucrative business for the future.”
