Gary Polson grew up on the family farm north of Waterville. He loves farming but fears a loss of direct federal payments would threaten his farm's ability to survive. Polson, 51, has been a full-time wheat farmer for 14 years. Before that he farmed part time while working on highway maintenance for the Washington State Department of Transportation.
