Progress Energy beats projections in 2nd quarter

Progress Energy posted better than expected second-quarter profits helped by favorable weather and lower operating costs. In the Carolinas, the hot weather wasn't as hot as last year, an earnings drag that was offset by the year-to-year gains from reduced nuclear plant outages.
