N.C. approves a 5% increase in Duke Energy's residential rates

Residential rates for Duke Energy's 1.8 million N.C. customers will go up 5 percent - typically, about $5 a month - on Sept. 1 to account for higher fuel costs. Utilities adjust rates annually based on their fuel expenses.
