The beef industry’s Beef Quality Assurance program was created in 1987 to assist beef producers in raising, feeding and harvesting high-quality beef. The current program is based on an initial certification followed by recertification every three years.

The process starts with a class that covers the main points of BQA from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Agricultural Building, 801 S. Walker St.

The fees for the program are $15 for N.C. Cattlemen’s Association members and $40 for non-members, which includes one-year membership.

For more information, call the Pender County Cooperative Extension at 259-1235. Pre-registration is required by 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15.
