Corn, soybean conditions decline: USDA

USDA reported that 57 percent of the U.S. corn crop was in good or excellent condition in the week ended Aug. 21 compared to 60 percent the previous week and 70 percent a year ago at this time.


In its weekly Crop Progress report, USDA rated 17 percent of the corn crop in poor or very poor condition, compared to 15 percent the previous week and 10 percent at this time last year.


Poorest corn condition ratings came from Texas (68 percent poor or very poor), North Carolina (48 percent), Kansas (41 percent) and Missouri (39 percent).


Soybeans
USDA reported 59 percent of the U.S. soybean crop was in good or excellent condition in the week ended Aug. 21 compared to 61 percent the previous week and 64 percent a year ago at this time.


USDA rated 14 percent of the soybean crop in poor or very poor condition, compared to 13 percent the previous week and 13 percent at this time last year.


Pastures
Pasture conditions remained largely unchanged with 39 percent of U.S. pastures in poor or very poor condition and 37 percent rated in good to excellent condition.
