Former Tyson executive Jeffrey Webster has been named chief operating officer of renewable oil and bioproducts company Solazyme.

Solazyme said in a news release that Webster, formerly group vice president and general manager of Tyson’s renewable products business, will steer its infrastructure expansion efforts.

Prior to joining Solazyme, Webster led Tyson’s effort to build the Dynamic Fuels plant in Geismar, La., America's first commercial-scale (75 million gallons per year) advanced biofuels facility.

"Jeff's deep understanding of both renewable fuels and nutrition and his vast experience building new growth platforms at large commercial organizations are vital to Solazyme as we scale and move into commercialization," CEO Jonathan Wolfson said. "Jeff brings incredible leadership experience across multiple industries and infrastructures that directly relate to Solazyme's business strategy, as we continue our rapid growth we are confident that Jeff's impact will be felt immediately."
