The Russian Agriculture Ministry has published a draft plan, needing 6.8 trillion rubles ($230 billion) of investment by 2020, which is aimed at increasing grain output and exports, reducing dependence on imported raw sugar and becoming an exporter of pork and poultry meat, according to a Reuters report.
The draft plan foresees doubling the output of meat to 14.1 million metric tons by 2020, mainly poultry and pork. By 2020, exports of poultry meat are forecast to be 400,000 metric tons and pork exports will be 200,000 metric ton. The Ministry claims that poultry and pig breeding capacity will expand rapidly and that Russia will be self-sufficient in these meats by 2015.
