China said its duties on U.S. poultry comply with World Trade Organization rules, a day after the U.S. filed a complaint with the agency over Beijing’s imposition of duties on imports of U.S. chicken products.

The U.S. and China must now hold talks for at least two months in a bid to resolve the dispute, according to a report by Bloomberg News.

China will study any request from the U.S. to consult on the matter, an official of China’s Ministry of Commerce said in a statement on the ministry’s website.

The WTO earlier this month rejected China’s appeal of a ruling that supports U.S. duties on Chinese tire imports, a move China said will distort trade between the two countries.

China imposed a duty of as much as 105.4 percent last year on U.S. broiler chicken products.
