USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a notice to its inspectors on verifying that ingredients used in product formulations are appropriately declared in the ingredients statement on final product labels.

The notice, Number 54-11 also instructs inspectors on verifying the control procedures that a processor uses for “ingredients of public health concern” and that the establishment has addressed any chemical food safety hazard in its hazard analysis.

The new notice is a follow up to FSIS Notice 35-11, “Verification Activities Related to Ingredients of Public Health Concern.”
