The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) will host two webinars in November to address the changing landscape of food safety law as well as a proposed rule by the Food and Drug Administration affecting Nutrition Facts labels.

The “2011 Food Litigation Webinar: Focus on Food Safety Law,” scheduled for 1 p.m. EST Nov. 2, will be a three-hour presentation about regulatory changes under the recently passed Food Safety Modernization Act and recent trends in litigation against the industry. This webinar is designed to help in-house counsel and litigation managers for manufacturers, restaurants, retailers and distributors in the industry to protect their brands.

The second webinar, “Get Smart: What’s Coming in Nutrition Labeling,” will explain what the FDA is expected to require in its nutrition rulemaking, which would affect all food labels. It is scheduled for 1 p.m. EST Nov. 3.

Later this year the FDA is expected to publish an extensive proposed rule that would reform the Nutrition Facts label and related rules, which would include requiring additional nutrient declarations, making some currently required declarations voluntary, and regulating some nutrition-related claims.
