Gov. Bev Perdue today was joined by North Carolina business leaders and representatives from Longistics and Rare Bird Trading Company, to celebrate the opening of the Suzhou Industrial Park International Commodities Exhibition Center. SIP International Commodities Exhibition Center allows small- and medium-sized businesses an easy and cost-effective way to gain access to China, the second largest market for North Carolina exports after Canada.

“Expanding opportunities for North Carolina businesses to sell their goods and services overseas translates into jobs, which remains my top priority,” Gov. Perdue said. “The Suzhou Industrial Park International Commodities Exhibition Center will strengthen North Carolina’s presence in the Chinese market, allowing us to bolster trade and communications while expanding our business ventures.”

The Exhibition Center currently hosts North Carolina exhibitors such as Childress Vineyards; The Angus Barn; architectural firm BJAC pa; and Turnberry Interior Design Group. The center is already providing business development and accelerated export opportunities for a variety of companies including these.

“With the opening of the Exhibition Center, we are offering a great opportunity to companies based in North Carolina and beyond to gain exposure in a rapidly-growing China,” said Duane Long, chairman and co-creator of Longistics. “This Center represents a terrific way to stay competitive on a global scale.”

Exhibitors in China are now able to display products in bonded, secure areas and benefit from regular events held at local, national and international levels to bring potential buyers to the Center. Additionally, Chinese companies working in North Carolina benefit from the two N.C. Foreign Trade Zones operated by Longistics – FTZ 214, located in the Global TransPark near Kinston, N.C., and FTZ 93, located in Research Triangle Park adjacent to Raleigh-Durham International Airport. The partnership will provide support for temporary exhibition and trade shows across China and North Carolina, and will offer diversified marketing tools, including billboards, TV, radio, Internet and print. Materials commonly exported from North Carolina to China include but are not limited to machinery, furniture and healthcare products such as pharmaceuticals.

Sited next to the city of Suzhou and described as a leading industrial park in China, the Suzhou Industrial Park already houses 14,500 companies, more than 80 of which are in the Fortune 500. It is the second largest industrial city in China, next to Shanghai.
