General Assembly considers changes to method of selecting judges

Since 2002 North Carolina has used non-partisan elections to select judges at all levels. Judges serving on the North Carolina Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals and on the superior court bench are all elected to eight-year terms in non-partisan elections. State district court judges run in non-partisan races every four years.
