6 species with North Carolina ties endangered, may get federal protection

A federal list released last week identifies 244 species that are in danger of extinction unless they receive protection under the Endangered Species Act. Six of those species have ties to North Carolina.
But it could be another five years or more before many of them officially become endangered species.
