North Carolina Democrats have filed a long-promised lawsuit over redistricting, claiming Republican lawmakers illegally abused their power when they designed new congressional and legislative districts.
Former state Sen. Margaret Dickson of Fayetteville is the lead plaintiff among 45 people who filed the lawsuit Thursday in Wake County Superior Court.
