Whether baked in sugary pies, crushed and sprinkled on top of sweet potato casserole or eaten straight out of the shell, pecans are a staple in Southern homes during the holidays. But with Hurricane Irene thrashing the East Coast in August, pecan trees suffered the wrath of the storm.
